3 Degree Guarantee!

We all know that during Vegas Summer days you could fry an egg on a sidewalk, but our city’s weather also ranges from 90 mph winds, to stormy rains causing flash floods, to scorching triple digit heat, to 8 inches of snow covering the valley. Being a meteorologist in Las Vegas is no easy feat. Luckily for The Cupcake Girls, and all the other amazing non profit organizations that reside in Las Vegas, we have Kevin Janison on our side predicting our weather reports. During the evening weekday broadcasts, Kevin Janison, NBC’s meteorologist for Channel 3 News, predicts the next day's temperature. Every time he is within 3 degrees, Channel 3 along with one of their partners donates $100 to a...

It's Our 6th Birthday!

It’s been six years since I officially launched The Cupcake Girls, and I find that I am still humbled and blown away by what we have been able to accomplish together. It’s been two years since we talked about the anniversary of our founding, and 2015 and 2016 brought tremendous growth to our organization. We have added staff in both cities, and now have a team of social work interns providing support to our clients in ways we only dreamed of in the beginning! LVPD is now calling us to provide aftercare for survivors of domestic sex trafficking, and we have better resources and partnerships in place to provide that care, and so much more. We are on the cusp of opening a resource center to...

Be My Valentine

Valentine’s Day is usually recognized as a romantic holiday; it’s a relational holiday, seeming to require validation from another to be complete. But what if Valentine’s Day and Lent this year weren’t just about being loved by another -- what if the greatest gift of all was realizing you loved yourself? Please join us in celebrating a new tradition, Be My Valentine, in which you ask yourself this of yourself and not just another. Start on Valentine’s Day...then keep going! Make time each day to do at least one kind thing for yourself and celebrate it, because you deserve your own love. Here are some no-cost ideas to get you started: Have your coffee “to stay” instead of “to...

New Year, New Beginnings

With new years, come new beginnings...new hopes for health and happiness, new dreams and goals, and new plans put in place to best ensure success in the year to come. The Cupcake Girls are celebrating the new year with a new beginning of our own; one we are very excited to share with you, and which we’re confident will allow us to give our best to those we care for throughout the year to come. Five years ago, The Cupcake Girls was founded on a core belief that all people deserve respect, dignity, and access to resources that will allow them to empower their pursuits, and that we were uniquely positioned to offer this to adult entertainers. This year, we are very excited to roll out a...

Happy Birthday to The Cupcake Girls Portland!

Today marks the fourth anniversary of The Cupcake Girls Portland.  That’s four years of providing respect, resources, and relationships to adult entertainers in and around Portland, Oregon. We are incredibly grateful for every opportunity to assist these individuals reach their goals at their pace, and in their time. We began the Portland chapter with seven volunteers and I’m excited to say,  that number has expanded to eighty-three. Because of our growing numbers, both in volunteers and clients, we have been able to accomplish an incredible amount this last year.  Already, we've doubled our statistics recorded in 2014!  As I sit here writing this blog, I'm blown away by the...

Behind the Scenes

Over the last couple of months, the Operations team with the assistance of other volunteers has tackled various projects in order to further improve the policies and procedures of The Cupcake Girls.  This branch works behind the scenes and therefore many may not be aware of the changes that have taken place.  Here’s what we’ve accomplished at a glance: After collaborating with other directors and staff, including individuals in Las Vegas, The Cupcake Girls has implemented a new volunteer application process.  Starting in July, prospective volunteers have been required to fill out and pass a background check as well as complete a volunteer application before receiving an invitation to...

Let's Get Operational

Like many organizations, The Cupcake Girls is a machine with various intricate parts working together to achieve a common goal. It’s not just comprised of volunteers working directly with clients. There are other individuals working behind the scenes to bake cupcakes, assemble gifts, connect with donors, research community resources, coordinate volunteer orientations, and many other things. Each piece of the puzzle is essential, no matter how small the role, and our team is continually striving to create an efficient system that effectively serves the adult entertainment community. To work towards this goal the Portland branch has created an operations team, and while small in...

It's our 4th birthday ... and the cupcakes are for you!

Four years after formally launching The Cupcake Girls, I find myself sincerely humbled and blown away by what we’ve been able to accomplish together.  It’s so much more than I ever could have dreamed of and gives me so much hope for the journey that lies ahead. We’re very proud of the numbers -- the $380,000+ dollars raised, 200+ volunteers joined, and 75+ community partners engaged -- because what it all supports is our mission to provide respect, resources and relationships to those in the adult entertainment industry.  But why does it matter?  There is no one better equipped to tell you how big of a difference our mission is making than the entertainers themselves.  Meet...
