Happy Birthday to The Cupcake Girls Portland!

Today marks the fourth anniversary of The Cupcake Girls Portland.  That’s four years of providing respect, resources, and relationships to adult entertainers in and around Portland, Oregon. We are incredibly grateful for every opportunity to assist these individuals reach their goals at their pace, and in their time.
We began the Portland chapter with seven volunteers and I’m excited to say,  that number has expanded to eighty-three. Because of our growing numbers, both in volunteers and clients, we have been able to accomplish an incredible amount this last year.  Already, we’ve doubled our statistics recorded in 2014!  As I sit here writing this blog, I’m blown away by the progress this organization has made, especially when I compare the numbers from our first year to present day.
November 2011 – November 2012 numbers:
• 57 meetings for peer support
• 26 professional sessions with doctors, dentists, and lawyers
• 19 instances of providing mental health assistance-including therapy offered through partners and/or facilitating substance abuse counseling.
• 13 resume building and career development sessions
• 32 bills paid and/or care packages given
• 24 new parent and family resources
• 6 instances for new housing and moving support

January 2015 – November 2015
 402 meetings for peer support
• 62 professional sessions with doctors, dentists, and lawyers
• 27 instances of providing mental health assistance-including therapy offered through partners and/ or facilitating substance abuse counseling.
• 17 resume building and career development sessions
• 53 bills paid and/or care packages given
• 52 new parent and family resources
• 6 financial advisory sessions
• 41 instances for new housing and moving support
These numbers are just fantastic and I couldn’t be more proud.  I’m continually impressed by our clients who have displayed an immense amount of bravery when trusting us with their needs and life stories. I’m so proud of our volunteers who, regardless of difficult situations, keep pressing on with the same passion I witnessed when they first began this journey.  And finally, I’m immensely grateful for our donors who continually believe in us and fund our mission.
Thank you Portland, thank you clients, thank you volunteers, and thank you donors. Thank you for the last four years. They have been full of challenges, tears of celebration and frustration, and overall, they have been good to us. It’s a lot of work, but it really has been good. As a matter of fact, it’s been great!
