Sweet Run 2016: We Need You!

In Portland, a team of volunteers are meeting for a group run. They have committed to raise money and awareness in order to offer tangible resources to people who have been sex trafficked, and those working in the adult industry. All of them have busy schedules and plenty of commitments, and they could have used another couple of hours of sleep, but it’s a small sacrifice of time and effort for something they believe in. They know every dollar they raise is making a difference. In Las Vegas a woman is lacing up her running shoes and stretching. She has a half-marathon coming up in October, and she’s ready to tackle a five mile training run. Running and fundraising are hard for her, but...

Will Run for Cupcakes - Sweet Run 2015

We’re looking for runners (and walkers!) to partner with the Las Vegas team for our annual Sweet Run, happening November 14th and 15th, 2015. What exactly is “The Sweet Run”? Good question! The Sweet run is what we call this fundraiser, which is actually part of the largest race series in the U.S. - The Rock ‘n’ Roll race series. This year is especially exciting because there are even more race options to choose from. You can run or walk a 5k, 10k, half or full marathon. How can I help? We're so glad you asked! You sign up for one of the Las Vegas rock ‘n’ roll races and then set up a fundraiser page to raise money for The Cupcake Girls. It couldn’t be easier! If...

Our Goals & Dreams Start Here

This past Wednesday, July 15th, the Portland team hosted our first ever donor event. We invited anyone and everyone who has ever donated to The Cupcake Girls in the Oregon/Washington area. We we’re so excited to finally show off our brand new office space and share our dreams and goals for the future with the people who brought us this far. The night began with mingling over food and drinks, and was followed by a guided office tour. We loved being able to show off our new space to the people who pay for us to be here. What’s special about our shared office space is that we can access it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are private conference rooms where we can have private staff,...

Start Where You Are, Use What You Have, Do What You Can

Pledge your support during our July donor campaign Start Where You Are Since our founding in 2011, and 501(c)(3) designation in 2014, The Cupcake Girls have been providing respect, resources, and relationships to those working in the adult entertainment industry. Our humble beginnings and limited resources have never limited our hearts that are drawn to serve, nor our creativity in using limited funding to provide the best possible care to our clients and community. Use What You Have Our donors have always been the backbone of our organization and allow us to provide services including medical, dental, mental health care, educational assistance, career planning, and domestic violence and...

The Power of a Network

If you’ve been following the CCG Portland’s activity over the last couple of months you know our team is in the final training stage for our Sweet Run half marathon and 10k that we’ll be running on May 17th. A few weeks ago we hosted our first in-house fundraising event. We gathered to eat pizza and call, Facebook, Tweet and generally connect with all our friends and family to ask for donations. Every year it’s an effective and sometimes inspirational evening as we watch those friends and family members show up to support us by offering funds and/or words of encouragement. This year, the evening started off slowly.  I posted a status or two on Facebook about the fundraiser and at...

Coffee & Cupcakes Arrives in Portland

For the last few months I have had the privilege of serving as the Chief of Direct Care for The Cupcake Girls Portland.  In that time I’ve met extraordinary individuals from all walks of life working in the adult entertainment industry; some enjoying a successful career, some seeking additional support in varying capacities.  Each time I interact with the clients we connect to community partnerships and resources, I’m grateful to work for an organization that can provide a wide variety of assistance when requested. In February, the Portland branch of CCG acquired an office space, something we’ve been working towards since this non-profit began.  A primary goal for obtaining an...

What a Difference a Run Makes

The Sweet Run is our biggest fundraiser of the year and is definitely my favorite. This event is fun, gets many volunteers involved, and allows us an opportunity to share the Cupcake Girls’ mission with friends and family on a more personal level.  I love it because it combines two of my favorite things, this organization and running.   A few years ago you would not have recognized me. I was heavily drinking, involved in a variety of drugs, and smoking. The party lifestyle led me to a very dark place, and one of the things that changed all of that was running. My sister asked me to go for a run with her and I ran about two blocks and called it good. I could barely breathe and my whole...

A Time for Growth

As I contemplate what I’d like to share about my experience working with the Cupcake Girls, all I keep thinking about is growth, personal growth as well as organizational growth. I started working with the Cupcake Girls in January of last year, and not long after I heard some of my peers talking about the Sweet Run 2014.  This event was a half marathon fundraiser to help the Cupcake Girls Portland raise $30,000 to support adult entertainers in the community. Honestly, I said yes because I didn’t have a good reason not to and I’m so glad that I did!   It was through training for this half-marathon that I started to truly get to know some of the women I was volunteering with. I was...
